What inspired you to specialize in cosmetic dermatology?

I’ve been fortunate to have strong mentors throughout my career. My mentor in medical school, Dr. Edit Olasz, had just started an aesthetic dermatology center and was incredibly passionate about her patients and the evolving field of cosmetic dermatology. Later, as a fellow at the Cleveland Clinic, I learned from another inspiring mentor and cosmetic dermatologist, Dr. Shilpi Khetarpal. She motivated me to help patients feel more comfortable and confident in their skin through cosmetic procedures.

What are some of the most rewarding parts of your work with patients?

Meeting and learning from patients is incredibly fulfilling, but nothing beats the joy of seeing a patient’s happiness after a cosmetic procedure. It’s rewarding to help them achieve almost-immediate results and see them feel more refreshed and confident.

Is it important to see a medical doctor for cosmetic work? Why?

Absolutely, it is crucial. There is a concerning lack of regulation regarding who can operate lasers or inject cosmetics. As a referral center, we often see complications from procedures done at medical spas. I highly recommend that patients see a board-certified dermatologist to ensure they receive the safest and most effective treatments.

How do you balance cosmetic goals with skin health in your practice?

As both a Mohs surgeon and a cosmetic dermatologist, I focus on skin cancer management as well as minimally invasive cosmetic procedures. When a patient sees a board-certified dermatologist, we treat the entire patient, not just the particular issue they present with. If I notice something concerning during a skin exam, I can address both the aesthetic and medical aspects of their skin health.

Are there any new treatments or technologies in cosmetic dermatology that you’re excited about?

Yes, I’m particularly excited about the new skin tightening procedures. These minimally invasive treatments offer significant tightening effects without the need for surgeries, providing great results with less downtime and lower risk.

What misconceptions do people often have about cosmetic dermatology?

One common misconception is that cosmetic procedures can be performed by anyone. The truth is that these treatments require specialized training and expertise to ensure safety and effectiveness.

What’s your approach to helping patients feel comfortable and confident in their  skin?

I start by asking patients to point out their concerns, ensuring we have a thorough discussion about their goals. When we offer cosmetic treatments, I emphasize the importance of a consistent skincare routine to maintain and enhance their results.

Are there any awards you’ve received that you’re most proud of?

I’m honored to have been voted as a top cosmetic dermatologist in the STL A-List Reader’s Choice Awards. Additionally, since starting my practice, I’ve been recognized as a rising star in dermatology by Castle Connolly Top Doctors.

Where are you from?

I’m a proud native of St. Louis! I attended WashU for my undergraduate studies and returned after medical school for my residency training.

What do you like to do outside of work?

My husband and I love spending time with our daughter, dogs and extended families. Family time is very important to us.

If you weren’t a doctor, what would your dream job be?

I’m fortunate to be doing what I love as a dermatologist, caring for patients. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
