WashU Medicine’s bone specialists are world-renowned physicians in the evaluation and treatment of metabolic bone disorders, particularly osteoporosis and Paget’s disease of bone. Our bone specialists are also educators to new generations of physicians at WashU Medicine.

Our bone health program is a world-class center of excellence for patient care. It is a multidisciplinary, ambulatory care service for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of metabolic bone diseases. The doctors of the bone health program are leading experts in the clinical management of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases. We provide individualized care tailored to each patient’s symptoms, bone density, risk factors and test results.

Since our bone health program is committed to the highest standards of quality in bone health evaluation, all personnel performing bone density testing are International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) certified bone density technologists. All bone health program specialists who interpret bone density tests are ISCD certified clinical densitometrists.

Services include diagnosis and treatment for:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Paget’s disease of bone
  • Metabolic bone diseases

For more information about the clinical services visit the WashU Medicine Bone and Mineral Diseases website.

DEXA-based body composition analysis

We are now offering self-pay DEXA-based body composition analysis at our Gary C. Werths Building at Siteman Cancer Center location. This non-invasive test provides precise measurements of total and regional fat mass, lean mass and bone mineral content. Unlike BMI, it allows for detailed assessment of visceral adiposity, appendicular lean mass, and overall body composition—offering valuable insights into metabolic health and functional status.

Please note that this service is not covered by insurance, and patients will pay the time-of-service cost of $100 per scan.

Results will be provided to patients at the time of service unless otherwise specified by the ordering physician. The patients will receive the report approximately 72 hours after the time of service via MyChart.

To schedule your DEXA-based body composition analysis, please call 314-454-7775.
