At WashU Medicine, experts in radiation oncology work with physicists and cancer biologists to provide radiation treatment to patients with cancer.

Also called radiation therapy or radiotherapy, radiation oncology is a special area of medicine that uses high-dose radiation to pinpoint cancerous tissue and destroy it, while minimizing damage to surrounding, healthy tissue. The Department of Radiation Oncology provides the highest level of care to patients at seven locations in the region as part of the nationally recognized Siteman Cancer Center.
