Washington University obstetric specialists provide prenatal care and delivery for women expecting normal labor and delivery (high-risk or multiple birth patients are referred to the Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists). The team includes obstetrician-gynecologists who provide a group approach to management of pregnancy and delivery at our Women & Infants Center in St. Louis.
How the group obstetric approach works:
- During the months of prenatal care, patients have an opportunity to meet and get to know each doctor, so both the woman and her partner are familiar with the physician who will be delivering her baby.
- Each day, one of the physicians is in the hospital attending to patients in labor and performing deliveries, which allows prenatal appointments for other patients to remain consistent and as scheduled.
- Each physician also practices general gynecology, so care can continue after pregnancy is completed.
