Washington University pediatric cardiologists are known for taking complex cases and are internationally recognized for their research. The team includes cardiac intensivists; cardiothoracic surgeons; cardiologists; cardiac interventionalists; electrophysiologists; cardiac anesthesiologists; and nearly 100 dedicated clinical staff.
Clinical services include:
The Heart Station: Inpatient and outpatient non-invasive cardiac testing such as echocardiography, electrocardiography, and Holter monitors. These tests are used to diagnose and treat congenital and acquired heart disease in children.
Cardiac Catheterization: Diagnostic catheterization assists in diagnosing complex heart conditions and helps decide further treatment. Interventional techniques have also been developed that may avoid open heart surgery or help improve recovery after surgery.
Cardiothoracic Surgery: Cardiothoracic surgeons, together with the pediatric cardiologists, supply surgical options for virtually all forms of congenital heart disease that require repair or correction.
Transplant/Heart Failure Management: More than 500 patients ranging from infants to adult congenital patients have received heart transplants at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. The Heart Center averages approximately 20 heart transplants each year. Many patients travel from out of state to receive their care here from our transplant team. We also perform several multi-organ transplants each year. Referrals to our heart failure/transplant team can be made by calling Children’s Direct at 800-678-HELP (4357).
